The makeover of this garden came after an extension to the client’s house, which had wrecked havoc on the garden space. As a young family they wanted the space to be fun and interesting for the children, but with grown up spaces for entertaining. This garden needed to be child-friendly, safe and beautiful.
The back of this garden had the sun for most of the day and was therefore the best place to install a large hardwood decking area. This offered great natural colour and provided the perfect entertainment spot. Further colour was brought into the garden by the addition of a beige sandstone patio close to the house which offered a clean and easy to maintain look. Garden lighting was installed towards the back of the garden to allow it to be used into the evening and to highlight some of the more attractive planting.
The garden features slender borders which we packed full of wildlife friendly plants and espalier fruit trees. These work well to disguise the fence panels and provide height and interest without taking up too much space. Both of these planting schemes are great for children as they bring wildlife into the garden.
The clients have found that they are more inclined to use their garden during the warmer months and especially in the evenings. The children are enjoying the outdoors more and overall, the garden is a more attractive place to be.
