Here, the garden had become extremely overgrown and dilapidated. There were a number of unwelcome plants growing throughout the space and the fencing was falling over in places. It was clear that a major overhaul was required. The clients had asked for a stylish garden with a traditional feel where they could entertain in the Summer. They also wanted somewhere to relax in the outdoors.
We presented the clients with a design that included a very symmetrical plan that they loved. We used a raised bed in the back garden to add height with seating provided by a floating bench. This concept gives the garden an open look and feel while providing extra relaxation space. We laid the paving stones in a diamond pattern with a clear rectangular edge to keep it relatively formal – but without complication. We also used Jackson trellising and fencing to disguise some of the walls that edge the garden. These let in light and frame the garden beautifully, while still providing that all important privacy.
This garden needed a cottage style planting concept to soften some of the formality and straight lines. We used shades of purple, pink, reds and whites to create a cooling atmosphere. Additional scented herbaceous plants and roses were added to create an oasis that the clients adore.
Once again, the clients were over the moon with their transformed garden. Finally they are able to enjoy the garden that has been substantially changed from the original. They now use it regularly throughout the year and are continuing to look after and add to the planting scheme.
